Yes — you can bundle car and renters insurance, and it is one of the most under-used discounts in Florida. Most people assume bundling only applies to homeowners. It does not. If you rent an apartment in Miami and you insure a car, putting both policies with the same carrier usually lowers what you pay on the auto side, which is the expensive half.
We are an independent agency, so we can do something a single-carrier agent cannot: quote the bundle and quote the two policies separately at different carriers, then show you which combination actually costs less. Sometimes it is the bundle. Sometimes it is not.
A bundle is not one merged policy. You still have two separate policies, two separate deductibles, and two separate claim processes. What you get is a multi-policy discount — the carrier applies a credit for holding more than one policy with them, and that credit is normally applied to your auto premium.
The size of that credit is set by the carrier and varies a great deal, so any specific percentage you see quoted online is somebody else’s number, not yours. It depends on the carrier, your ZIP code, your driving record and what coverage you are buying. The only figure that means anything is the one on your own quote.
There is a second effect that often matters more than the discount itself: a renters policy in Miami is typically inexpensive on its own, so the auto discount can offset a meaningful share of what the renters policy costs. That is why the combination is worth pricing even if you were not planning on renters coverage at all.
Miami-Dade has a very high share of renters, and two things are true at the same time here: auto insurance is expensive, and renters insurance is not. That asymmetry is exactly what makes this pairing work — you are using a cheap policy to pull down the price of an expensive one, while also covering your belongings and your personal liability, which your landlord’s policy does not do for you.
Your landlord insures the building. Your things inside it, and your liability if you cause damage or someone is hurt in your unit, are yours to insure.
We will tell you this plainly, because most places will not:
You give us the details once. We run the bundle at multiple carriers, then price the two policies separately, and come back with the actual numbers side by side and a recommendation. If separate carriers win, we tell you that. There is no charge for the quote, and we are not paid more for talking you into one structure over another.
Yes. Most major carriers offer a multi-policy discount for holding auto and renters together, and the credit is usually applied to your auto premium.
Usually, but not always. The multi-policy credit is real, but it comes off that carrier's own base rate. If their rate for your ZIP code or driving record is high, two separate policies can still be cheaper. That is why we price both ways.
It varies by carrier, ZIP code, coverage and driving record, so any single percentage is misleading. Because renters insurance in Miami is inexpensive, the auto discount often offsets a good part of the renters premium. We will show you the real numbers for your situation.
Your landlord's policy covers the building, not your belongings and not your personal liability. Most Miami leases also require a renters policy with a minimum liability limit.
Two. You keep separate policies, separate deductibles and separate claims. The bundle is a pricing discount, not a merged contract.
Talk to us before assuming either way. Carriers have rules about garaging address versus residence, and getting it wrong on the application can cause problems at claim time.
